Innovative Learning Experiences Menai offers specialist teachers and enrichment opportunities to support students in order to help them achieve their full potential. Students are given projects that encourage them to show off their skills in movies and videos, PowerPoint presentations and webpage design. School Network We have over 60 computers, all Pentium 4 and above, networked to the school server allowing students to access the internet, school intranet, school-based applications and their own work from any terminal in the school. All students have the facility to email other students and the teachers using the Department of Education's Secure Internet Browsing and Email system. Computer Lab Menai PS features a 28 computer laboratory, located in the library. Every student has the opportunity to use these computers for research, projects and to support the school's excellent learning experiences. Every student is given a unique login username and password, as well as their own work folder on the school's network. The lab also features a state-of-the-art Digital Projector, which the teachers use to demonstrate work tasks and also to instruct students on how to use various computer programs. Mini Labs Every classroom has their own four computer mini-lab. These are networked to the school system and allow students and teachers constant access to their files, applications and the internet while in the classroom. Connected Classrooms Menai Primary School is a part of The Connected Classrooms Program. The program is a NSW State Government initiative to provide Department of Education and Training staff and their students with new opportunities to connect with each other via video conferencing and have interactive whiteboard learning opportunities. Via video conferencing students can take virtual excursions around the world and ask questions of experts in virtually any field. Interactive Whiteboard Menai Primary has two interactive whiteboards, which are located in classrooms. An interactive whiteboard is a large touch-sensitive display panel replacing the traditional chalkboard in classrooms. The board is controlled by touching the board either by hand or with a "special" pen, as well as by using a computer mouse or keyboard. Students and teachers can write, type or draw on the board, then save, alter or print images. The boards play video's and are used for video conferencing. Our plan is to have one of these boards in every classroom by the end of 2009. Cameras and Scanners At Menai we have the latest in photographic technologies. Our school has several Digital Still Cameras, one Digital Video Cameras and two High Quality Scanners. Students are able to capture images from these devices and incorporate them into their multimedia presentations. Technology Action Plan Over the next two years Menai Primary plans to;
