Stage 3


In 2009 Menai Primary School has Three Stage Three classes.

  • Eucalyptus - taught by Miss Marshall

  • Grevillea - taught by Mr Tasker

  • Jarrah - taught by Mr Fuller

English

In Term 2 the students will be asked to write then present orally a speech in the form of an oral exposition. Topics will be suggested in class.

Class based reading programs for Literacy involving grammar, spelling and comprehension occur each day in graded literacy groups.
 

Mathematics

Graded Numeracy Groups are organised to run for an hour from 12:20pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday each week and so far this year have proven effective in helping students understand the content of number strands.

Two Mathematics projects will be attempted in these time slots. The first, Counting On is designed to assist those students who are still using Stage Two strategies to solve Stage Three problems. The other project, Financial Literacy is to help all students understand the complex world of finance. They will be given real life financial problems and limited budgets.
 

Human Society and Its Environment & Science and Technology

Term 1 - "Disastrous Effects" & "What's the Weather"

Term 2 - "Federal Government" & "An Ancient Land"

Term 3 - "Antarctica" & "Way Out Communication"

Term 4 - "Bushrangers" & Human Body"

Health/Physical Education/Personal Development

Winter PSSA (Inter school competition) sport begins in Week 2 Term 2 and continues until well into Term 3. Bushwalking and In-School sport activities will be organised for those not involved in PSSA.

Stage three students are regularly involved in Personal Development lessons based around the BOUNCE BACK modules.

During Term 3 there will be workshop lessons organised for all Year Six students run by Interellate School Services. These lessons will cost $28 for 4 sessions and treat issues typically present in the teenage years.
 

CAPA

The Steel Band, Dance Groups, Choir and Band begin in Term 1. They will perform along with all stage groups at the school CAPA night which is usually held in Term 4.

Daily Fitness is at 10:30am for 20mins to stimulate the body and mind.

  • Stage 3 visit to the Australian Museum to study aspects of An Ancient Land.

Stage Three Camp to Deer Park in the Royal National Park Term 4.

Year 6 Farewell Friday 11th December at Club Menai.
